You don’t hire Preston unless you love flowers,” Blum says. Eye-catching floral displays dominated the décor, starting with the two-tiered pedestal overflowing with pink and purple flowers that greeted guests at the rehearsal party.
At the reception, tall coral centerpieces dripping in crystals stole the show. “It was a perfect mix of over-the-top and tasteful elegance,” Blum says.
Throughout the weekend, guests were treated to performances by local musicians— from a jazz band and alpine horns to a gospel group that sang at the ceremony. “Use as much local talent as possible,” Blum says. “It buys goodwill, and it’s less expensive than flying all your vendors in.”
The weekend kicked off with a family-style dinner set in the hills of Ascona, followed by a cocktail party in lieu of a sit-down rehearsal dinner.
"Create a completely new feel to each event, so guests aren’t bored by the time the wedding rolls around,” Blum advises.
The scenic location—a small resort town in Switzerland—set the tone for this couple’s three-day destination wedding. While the gorgeous Alps provided a memorable backdrop, there were also special surprises at every turn, from showstopping floral installations to traditional alpine horns. “The bride wanted something glamorous and romantic that exuded an old-world European elegance,” says planner Marcy Blum.

While the inside of the church where the couple wed needed little décor, designer Preston Bailey framed the door in an extravagant all-white floral display to create a romantic mood right from the start. The couple treated guests to champagne and a 20-minute fireworks and music show.
